I just realised if you stop by Ipoh, it is a must to have tau fu fah. My friend recommended me Funny Mountain Tau Fu Fah at Jalan Theatre Ipoh. It is near by Foh San tim sum, along Jalan Dato Tahwil Azar.
Funny Mountain has been there since 1950-s. I bet it is family business running down from generation to generation.
Map to Funny Mountain
The tau fu fah is so smooth and sweet. I can simply die for it. My friend keep asking me if I would like to have another bowl since I keep on praising the tau fu fah is the best tau fu fah I ever tried.
Kan and I make a last minute move to go all the way down to Ipoh today to have Tim Sum. It might sounds a little bit crazy but it’s pretty common among the Penangites.
I dragged myself out from the bed at 6am plus and we departed to Ipoh at 7.15am. The journey was quite short and fast because we did a lot of crap talk and gossiping about everything under the sun.
Foh San Tim Sum wasn’t that difficult to find. Our lead mark was Jalan Leong Sin Nam. I was surprised when I saw Foh San restaurant today because the last time I visited 5 years ago it was still a small shop lot?!
Now it looks like a big giant standing infront of me.

I settled fown for all my favourite food- steamed fishball, pork dumpling, egg tart and my MUST TO HAVE prawn chee cheong fun. All so delicious!

It was very crowded in Foh San Restaurant. Some are not Ipoh locals visiting the restaurant. We have to wait for a while before we actually get our seat.
Crowded Saturday morning
Ground floor - view from staircase
Last but not least, when we reached our car park, a big surprise was waiting for us. Hallo…is that a summon?
We got a summon for not placing the ticket at the car park because we didn’t know where to buy the parking ticket.
Sad case.
And we didn’t even know where to pay the ticket…Lol.
It’s steamboat weekends again. Big Baby got a craze for steamboat recently, especially the Lamize Sichuan soup steamboat. This is the third time we are going to Lamize for steamboat. The first round was at town but it was quite far away from our place. So we headed to Krystal Point where there is another Lamize branch.

Crowd enjoying the steamboat
There are quite a lot of people this weekends. People seems to enjoy having steamboat even though it’s not Chinese New Year. Usually I have steamboat only during Chinese New Year and during that period, I would say Mom would have make 3-4 rounds of steamboat just for the relatives.
This round in Lamize Restaurant, we are much smarter to choose a room to have our steamboat. The last round we choose table for 2, the table was small as we are facing each other and at the end we have the steamboat boiling and the boiled soup hit our hands.
Two kids playing hide and seek outside the rooms
Rooms for customers
I would prefer to have steamboat in the room as there is one air-conditioner in the room. At least I don’t have to sweat it out and feeling hot during our steamboat session.
Food coming..yeay!
Finally our food is here. I realize all the waiters in Lamize can speak Mandarin language. I wonder where the restaurant owner get them. Does the owner train them up or they can speak the language before they look for the job?!
Amazing though…to have Vietnamese, Burmese or Indonesian (do not really know their race) speaking Mandarin to me.
My favourite food
A must to have
Tomyam & Si Chuan taste
I find myself doing better each time I go for steamboat. I specifically order the dishes I love so that the rest of the food do not go wasted. Prawns, fish ball and crab meat sticks definitely A MUST TO HAVE!
Everyone has left
Big Baby and I have lost count of time since we are sitting in the room. We didn’t realise everyone has already left. By the time we finish, we were the only couples left in the restaurant. Feel pai seh have to make the waiters wait for us.
Big Baby at the counter
Perhaps next time we should really sit outside instead of sitting in the room. Afterall we have closed the room door because we want the air-con to feel cold. It was a good dinner though, because I have tomyam steamboat!
Tomorrow is Monday. Today is the last rest day for me, as usual, I don’t really fancy Sundays these days.
I don't FANCY SUNDAY mood
Big Baby proposed to have steamboat for dinner today at Nagore Road Penang. The last time I remembered having steamboat was during Chinese New Year with my family.
Spicy Girl Restaurant
We went to Spicy Girl Restaurant. The owner seems to come from China and opened a restaurant here, however how true is that I am not very sure.
Inside Spicy Girl Restaurant
We went to for steamboat at around 6 in the evening. So there wasn’t anyone as it was too early for dinner. Big Baby and I got a room for ourselves in the restaurant. The best thing in the room is that there is even a toilet inside!
Food ordering from the menu
Little small toilet inside the room
I went out to search for the bathroom while Big Baby ordered the food. When I asked the waitress she was telling me there is a toilet inside the room I was in just now. I find it different to have a toilet inside the room I am eating. The toilet is small and fully occupy and due to lack of space, they even have place the sink just right on top of the toilet bowl!
Dishes need to be order
The dishes for the steamboat need to be order specifically. Usually the ones I have is the steamboat buffet where we can pick the dishes place infront of the counter.
Ready to eat!
Steamboat dishes
Maggie with Seaweed
The price is only RM40 plus for 2 person. So it’s about RM20 per pax.
For steamboat buffet, you can eat anything you want and as much as you want for RM20 per pax. So in my opinion, going for steamboat buffet is much more worth it but sometimes for a change of environment and style, you might want to try Spicy Girl Restaurant.
Faces Steak Garden is the best recommended place if you want to have cheap western food. The place is at Tanjung Tokong just beside the nasi kandar shop.
I went there during the weekend, ordered Grilled NZ Sirloin Steak dressed with black pepper sauce. It cost only RM13.90 for steak, quite reasonable price, isn’t it?
Grilled NZ Sirloin Steak
They also have good New England Fish and Chip cost at RM8.80.
New England Fish & Chip
And the specialty of all is the drinks serve at Faces. The big fruit juice cost between Rm4.80- RM6.50 for regular and large size.
Love Fruit Juice & David Beckham Fruit Juice
The drinks come in funny names as well. They name most of it according to celebrities name such as David Beckham fruit juice, Michelle Yeoh fruit juice, Andy Lau fruit juice, Arnold Schwarzenegger fruit juice and so on. The drink I choose was Love fruit juice coming from mixture of guava, orange, pineapple and mint.
I was thinking if I ever gonna get stomachache drinking so much mixture of fruits into one drink. But looks like I am still fine after that.
Faces Steak Garden restaurant has been there for many years. I remembered having celebrations with my friends there 5 years ago.
It is a place which holds many sweet and sad memories.
This evening Big Baby was tempted to have chicken rice. Not any ordinary chicken rice, he wanted a good meal and steamed chicken, not the usual roasted ones.
We went to some places around Penang just to kill his temptation. Ended up at Hai Nan Town near Penang Ferry there. It was just beside QE II Bay. QE II is one of the famous hang out place for clubbing in Penang. I personally went there twice last year.
Hai Nan Town
QE II
Hai Nan Town is different from the way I would have imagine it. It is more of a family place where people have gathering, reservation with their loved ones to dine in together.

We checked the menu and they don’t provide the food that we are looking for. So too bad for Hai Nan Town, we decided not to eat there and plan to go somewhere else.
Big Baby and I ended up in Nagore Place having Fatty Loh Chicken Rice!!!
Fatty Loh Chicken Rice
Famous Fatty Loh Chicken
Menu
Fatty Loh Chicken Rice is famous in Penang but I don’t really fancy eating there. I’m not much of a regular, I think the last time I ate there was like 3-4 years ago.
If you really ask my opinion, I will go to the other shops opposite Fatty Loh Chicken Rice, which is SteamBoat at the other side!!!
I’m not really a fan of pancakes but I do fancy over ice-cream, nuts, fruits and
whipped cream. Jone actually suggested TGIF for over dinner on Friday. However I prefer something light, so we went to Paddington Cake House in Queensbay Mall.

As I glanced over the menu choosing what to eat, my Sony baby beep sending one message.
Who fancy me?
ME CUTE?
SOMEONE LIKE ME LAST TIME?
Have I been posting up some pictures of myself or sending my picture to any friends lately? Nahh…I didn’t. Someone must have been accidentally sending the wrong message to me or the message is suppose to send to someone else. The name on the phone captured someone by the name Ng.
Ng is actually one of the guy working in my office.
I ignored the message and continued ordering my phone. Less than 10 seconds, my phone rang.
Well, Ng must have been noticed himself sending me the wrong message and the call is to clear the misunderstandings. He sounds pretty embarrassed and apologized to me. I bet he looks red all over on the other side.
Austrian Kaiserschmarren Pancake
Finally I decided to go for this Austrian Kaiserschmarren Pancake. Classic Kaiserschmarren is pancake served with vanilla ice-cream, caramelized apples, black and golden raisins.
The picture in the menu looks delicious and tempting.
Classic Kaiserschmarren
Nuts, fruits...ah my favourite.
And here is Jone acting cute posting for my camera.
Jone my little buddy
Finally my food has come. And it doesn’t look as nice as in the menu. Definitely the food didn’t meet up to the menu standard.
Not-so-tempting-pancake
When I tasted the pancake, it just kills my appetite. It wasn’t so nice as it looks in the menu. I had Paddington cake house before, and today is my second time. The first time when I went there with my friends, we had buffet. I couldn’t remember how many pancakes actually went down my stomach. All I know was we were swearing that we wouldn’t have pancake anymore or at least not in the very near future.
And true enough, it was 2 years later that I actually come back to Paddington cake house to have pancake again.
The Vienna coffee was better than the food I ordered.
Vienna Coffee
Jone food’s looks better than mine though. I didn’t really notice what he had ordered but somehow it looks more eat-able than my pancake.
Pan is hot, do not touch!
And of course, I didn’t manage to finish my pancake.
Anyway, it’s still a good dinner. Especially meeting old friend to catch up stories and life with.
And Jone said I look tense.
Of course I am tense with my life at this present time, but I just wonder if TENSE word is written on my forehead?
Big Baby woke me up at 8.30am for morning Tim Sum at Gurney. I just had 3hrs of sleep since I slept at 5.30am in the morning. Since we haven’t been taking Tim Sum for quite some time, I got up from my bed with sleepy face on a quiet Sunday morning.
Tim Sum or Dian Xin (Mandarin) is usually taken in the morning for breakfast. It has varieties of choices such as dumplings, pau (buns), chicken feet, porridge and other pastries. Usually people take Tim Sum with nice hot tea served together.
Early Sunday morning, less car on the street
The Tim Sum place is just opposite the sea side.
Many people actually love Tim Sum for breakfast
Bali Hai Tim Sum
Bali Hai in Gurney
Bali Hai is open for Tim Sum in the morning and it serve seafood at night. I have been to this place for seafood quite a number of times but this is the first time I go for the morning Tim Sum.
I do wonder why the owner of this restaurant name the place as “Bali Hai”. Hai in Cantonese also carries the obscene meaning. Later on, I discover the ACTUAL reason the owner name this place Hai.
