The revamped scheme aims to create a structured pathway from grassroots participation and talent identification to elite-level training and international competition. The component will integrate Olympic Training Centres, State Training Centres, Khelo India Centres of Excellence and grassroots facilities.
It will also provide athletes access to sports science, nutrition, mental health support, sports medicine and technology-enabled monitoring. It will expand structured competitions across age groups and disciplines, including Youth and University Games, Beach Games, Water Sports Festival, Martial Arts Games, and school, university.
What Happened
The scheme also provides for ASMITA Leagues to promote women’s participation, along with dedicated initiatives for para-athletes, indigenous and tribal games, and sports for peace and development. The component aims to create a standardised, science-based and technology-enabled system to identify and nurture.
According to a Gazette notification issued on Monday, the Centre will contribute ₹28,489 crore and the State/UT share will be ₹565 crore.
Its stated vision is “to transform India’s Sports Landscape”, with the framework aligned with Khelo Bharat Niti-2025 and the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.
The scheme has nine components, with the largest allocation of ₹10,586 crore earmarked for Khelo India Training Facilities.
Key Details
The Sports Technology component will create a Khelo India Digital Ecosystem incorporating the National Sports Repository System, Athlete Management System, Game Management System and Federation Management System. It will also use AI-based analytics for talent identification and performance monitoring.
Sports Infrastructure for Medal Strategy has been allocated ₹4,866 crore, while ₹4,963 crore will be spent on strengthening strategic sports assets, including the modernisation of existing facilities and creation of high-performance centres.
The Sports Competitions and Leagues component has an allocation of ₹2,358 crore.
Another ₹2,407 crore has been earmarked for Talent Identification and Development.

The State Action Plan for Sports Infrastructure Development has a Central allocation of Rs. The scheme will be steered by a National Executive Council chaired by the Youth Affairs and Sports Minister.
Coach and Support Staff Development has been allocated ₹748 crore, while ₹300 crore will go towards the Fit India Movement and ₹302 crore towards Sports Technology.
Funding will follow a 60:40 model for general-category states, 90:10 for northeastern and Himalayan states, and 100 per cent Central funding for UTs.
